Day 1

Welcome upon arrival at Yangon airport and transfer to the hotel. After check-in, visit to see the Scott (Bogyoke) Market (The market closes on Monday and Public Holidays), built in 1926, this sprawling complex is filled with goods and handicrafts of Myanmar and makes it an excellent opportunity for a last shopping spree.

And then transfer to your hotel

Day 2

Breakfast at the hotel.

After breakfast visit beautiful Kandawgyi Lake with the huge mythical birds of the Karaweik Barge in prominent view.  On to the Botataung Pagoda, located on Yangon harbor, where you will see many ancient Buddhist relics and artifacts.  Then visit the downtown district and its many old colonial buildings still in use. There is also the Independence Monument in Mahabandoola Gardens, dedicated to Burma’s independence from Great Britain in 1948.  The streets are filled with colorful sidewalk markets selling various items both old and new. After our downtown ‘walkabout’, if time allows, we may go to Wahdan jetty on the Yangon River to see the hustle and bustle of local life as goods and people transfer on and off the ships.

Afternoon sightseeing includes the colossal reclining Buddha Chaukhtatkyi. We end the day with a visit to the awe inspiring Shwedagon Pagoda (with 70 tons of gold), perhaps the most beautiful pagoda complex in all of Asia

Day 3

Yangon/ Heho flight schedule ETD 07:00 / ETA 09:15 via Bagan

After breakfast, transfer to Yangon airport for a flight to Heho. Arrive Heho airport and drive to unique and magical Inle Lake, located about 900 meters above sea level and 22 km long by 11 km wide (about one hour drive). Arrive Nyaung Shwe jetty and begin our sightseeing by long tailed boat to Innpawkhone Village where you can see lotus and silk weaving industries. Next visit Nanpan to see the traditional boat making, cheroot (Burmese cigar) making factory. Lunch time break.

And then continue our visit to Phaungdaw U Pagoda and Ngaphae Chaung Monastery and floating gardens.

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel.

Travel by boat to south for a journey to reach Sagar and Thakong Villages at the far end of Inle Lake. This relaxing boat journey (about 3 hours one way) enables us to get off the beaten path and see unspoiled culture and the traditional life-styles of the ethnic groups living in the area. On the way we will visit Kyauktaing, a shan village live on earthenware pottery works. On our trip we will see beautiful landscapes, flowering trees and settlements dotting both sides of the canal and then back to your hotel.

Day 5

Heho/ Bagan flight schedule ETD 16:25 / ETA 17:05

Breakfast at the hotel, morning visit to the moving 5 days market (if today coincides with a good Inle market day) and then continue on to visit Indein and its enchanting 17th century pagodas.  To reach Indein and the nearby village  and Pa O village we will take a boat ride up a small scenic creek that runs into Inle Lake, passing villages and water buffalo bathing in the creek as we traverse small ‘dams’ built to slow the flow of water.  A few Indain pagodas are being restored but most of them still lie in an abandoned ‘Indiana Jones’ type setting.

And then transfer to airport to take an evening flight to Bagan. Arrive Bagan, transfer to your hotel.

Day 6

OPTIONAL: Oriental Ballooning: Early morning wake up call to transfer to the take-off site of the hot air balloon. Take off before sunrise and see the sun come up as you drift slowly over the pagodas for about 50 minutes before landing and enjoying celebratory champagne. Return to the hotel in time for breakfast.

Breakfast at the hotel. Start our sightseeing tour of one of Asia’s most popular archeological destination highlights busy Nyaung Oo Market; and Bagan’s distinctive pagodas such as Shwezigon, a prototype of later Myanmar stupas; Wetkyi-in- Gubyaukgyi, a 13th century ‘cave temple with interesting fine frescoes; Ananda Pagoda, one of the finest, largest and best persevered in Old Bagan; and next to it we visit Ananda Ok Kyaung, one of the few surviving brick monastery buildings from the Early Bagan period and Htilominlo Temple which is known to be the last Myanmar Style temple built in Bagan.

After lunch time break, we return to the hotel for a rest before our afternoon visit to Dhammayangyi Temple, a massive later period temple with the finest brickwork in Bagan and Thatbyinnyu Temple  towering above the other monuments of Bagan to enjoy the sun-set with  the panoramic view of Bagan.

Day 7

Breakfast at the hotel.

Morning drive to Mt. Popa, which supposedly rose from the ground in a massive earthquake in 442 BC. Mt. Popa is famous as the abode of the Nats (Spirit Gods) and for its panoramic view of the local tropical region. There is a volcanic plug with a temple on top that we can climb up to if we like. On the way to Mt. Popa visit a local toddy palm farmer and see how toddy palm juice and sugar are produced.

Return back to Bagan and the rest of the day is free.

Day 8

Bagan/ Yangon flight schedule ETD 10:05 / ETA 11:25   

After breakfast, transfer to airport for a flight to Yangon. Upon arrival at Yangon airport and connect your onward departure flight back home.
